The inaugural event in an ongoing series, sessions will transform Weeksville Heritage Center’s performance space into an experiential room for sound, featuring three hours of curated music tailored for deep listening, contemplation, grooving, and feeling. For session one, Lovie (Summer School Radio) and Alex Rita (Touching Bass, Calm Roots) will be at the Sonic Helm, with KARLALA sound system on amplification.
Picturing an Abundant Queer Future
In collaboration with The American LGBTQ+ Museum and artist Sara Elise, join us at Weeksville Heritage Center to celebrate Queer life in New York City. Together, we will co-create a future historical photo archive of present-day Queer NYC, capturing images that represent our community resting, enjoying ourselves, and playing together.
Day of Dreaming
Tap into the power of your dreams for personal and collective transformation, join us and Creative Time, along with artists Alisha Wormsley and Kite, for a Day of Dreaming on the summer solstice, June 20. This event invites New York City residents to come together in fellowship to rest and dream about our futures, guided by live music, movement, meditation, and more.
Exhibition Opening: Inheritance/SHACK
What does inheritance mean to you? Spend the eve of Juneteenth with us as we celebrate the opening of Inheritance/SHACK, a socially engaged collaborative art project by artist Walis Johnson. Inspired by Beverly Buchanan's iconic vernacular shack sculptures, "Inheritance/SHACK" brings together thirteen Brooklyn community members who have learned carpentry to design, build, and install shack-like sculptures. These creations explore themes of inheritance, cultural preservation, and the significance of African American spaces. Light bites and refreshments will be served from 6 to 7 pm. 3rd Annual Juneteenth Food Festival
Weeksville Heritage Center and Jummy's Picks by Black-Owned Brooklyn are partnering again for our third annual Juneteenth Food Festival! Join us on Saturday, June 15, from 11 am - 8 pm for this vibrant celebration of Black food, culture and community with 40+ food vendors and artisans. We’ll also have performances, art-making projects, wellness activities and more!
